Denver Skiing – Winter Park Is The Closest

Denver skiing – it doesn’t get any closer than Winter Park Resort, which is about 60 miles from the Denver metro area.

And that’s as good as it gets. There is no actual skiing in Denver, unless you count cross country skiing at local parks after large snow storms. There’s also a terrain park, sponsored by Winter Park Resort, that’s open for a few months at Ruby Hill Park, in central Denver, which attracts hotdog skiers and snowboarders, but doesn’t have a lift.

People who come to Denver on vacation or business trips often enjoy skiing at Winter Park for a day or more, because the trip is a breeze. Straight up I-70, and you’re off the interstate before the traffic bottle-necks with skiers and snowboarders trying to access the other major Colorado ski areas.

Denver and Winter Park have a rich skiing history, given that the resort was founded by Denver park managers in the 1940s and run as a non-profit for more than 50 years. In recent years, Intrawest (out of Canada) took over the ski area on a 50-year lease arrangement with the city of Denver, so perhaps, technically, there is “Denver skiing.”

At any rate, if you choose to stay over, in Winter Park, we have all types of lodging available, not only during ski season, but also year-round, including: luxury homes, cabins, townhomes, 1-bedroom condos, 2-bedroom condos, and 3-bedroom condos.
